GB deadweight pig prices (UK spec)

Updated weekly

The APP (All Pig Price) is the GB average deadweight pig price achieved by producers each week. The SPP (Standard Pig Price) is the average price for GB standard pigs, those that have not received a premium for the production system, feed regime or breed. The prices are collected from voluntary surveys. These prices are for carcases dressed to UK specification.

The UK-Spec SPP rose again, by 1.84p to 181.83p/kg in the week ending 18 June. It almost goes without saying that this average market price is still below the estimated cost of production.

Estimated slaughter in the week was 169,500 head, 3,500 lower than the week before. This brings the number of clean pigs killed this year to an estimated 4.3 million, 1% higher than a year ago.

Carcase weights averaged 91.29kg, lighter than last week, but still heavier than a year ago.

The UK-spec APP increased by 0.54p to 185.89p/kg in the week ending 11 June, bringing the difference between the two series to 5.90p, narrower than the week before.
